The ranch is approximately sixteen miles from Red River, NM whose amenities include a full size grocery store, various forms of year round entertainment for the whole family including fishing in the Red River, mountain biking, skiing at Red River Ski area, and many fine dining and shopping facilities.
The town of Eagle Nest, NM is a located approximately 2 miles south of the ranch at the junction of NM Highway 38 and US Highway 64. This town had a colorful past with a history of gold and silver mining and illegal “gambling”. Eagle Nest was a gathering place for some of the Old West’s famous and infamous characters. It is now a quiet but growing community with schools through the 8th grade for the children of the Moreno Valley & Red River, and shops that attract tourists and locals.
Eagle Nest is also home to Eagle Nest Lake State Park, paradise for trout fisherman from all over the country.
Angel Fire, NM is located 14 miles to the south and offers a ski resort with 67 ski trails, a PGA rated 18-hole golf course and a full service airport with an 8,900 ft. runway capable of accommodating a Lear 45.
Taos, NM is about 40 miles away and offers eclectic shopping, art galleries, museums, a world renowned ski area, a modem hospital, a full service and a jet accessible airport and one of the oldest Indian Pueblos in the Southwest.

Santa Fe is renowned world—wide as a shopper’s paradise — with good reason. There are hundreds of unique retail shops and boutiques in Santa Fe, plus a factory outlet mall, two major shopping malls and more than a dozen smaller shopping centers, serving everyone from window-shoppers to the serious “shop till you drop” veterans.
Taos Ski Valley
Taos Ski Valley is known for her famed steeps and remote powder filled bowls. And the Ernie Blake Ski School has consistently been rated #1 in North America. So tune up those skis and plan to stay awhile.
Angel Fire
Home to New Mexico’s first high—speed detachable quad, the new Angel Fire Resort is making waves in the ski scene of the Southwest. Angel Fire includes 4 advanced runs for skiers and snowboarders, a snowboarding terrain park, seven intermediate runs and big steeps and fat deeps. Red River Ski Area
Cover the bumps and cruisers off the Copper chair with new snowmaking and step aside for the experts on two new advanced runs, “Tailings” off the copper chair and “E Town Ditch” off the Red chair. And with one of the fastest courses in the Rockies, you’re bound to set records!
FISHING
Eagle Nest Lake is the grand daddy of all Enchanted Circle waters for kokanee salmon, rainbow and cutthroat trout. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish stocks thousands of trout and salmon each year. The lake is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and no swimming or water skiing is allowed. Bait anglers use worms, corn, power bait, roe sacks or any combination they create. Try trolling or casting maribou jigs, Swedish pimples, super dupers, Z—rays, panther martins, pistol petes, rooster tails, kokanee killers, mister twisters or rapalas. Mid-summer anglers troll double shammies behind Christmas trees.
Fly fishing is good spring to fall depending on the hatch. Check what’s hot at local sporting goods stores.
Hearty outdoorsmen can hoof to high mountain lakes in and around the Wheeler Peak Wilderness Area like Middle Fork, Lost and Horseshoe lakes. Or drive to Goose,Eagle Rock, Cabresto, Latir or Fawn lakes.For something different, try Lake 13 at the Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge, 18 miles from Cimarron for trout and bass or the Shuree Ponds in the Valle Vidal that extends from Cimarron to Costilla north of Questa.lf streams are your preference, you can choose from the sometimes difficult to access Rio Grande and all its tributaries – Red River, Rio Hondo and Rio Pueblo de Taos. Or try the Cimarron, Cabrest or Coyote Creek outside Angel Fire or Costilla Creek in the Valle Vidal. Some waters are catch and release only and restricted to artificial flies and barbless hooks.
